I didn't blog it when the 80s track list came out, because honestly I could give a quarter of a shit about Guitar Hero 80s edition. Sorry.
But the GH3 tracks that were revealed today? Boy howdy, I can't wait to school all you motherfuckers on these tunes:
Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
The Metal - Tenacious D
My Name is Jonas - Weezer
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Rock And Roll All Nite - Kiss
School's Out - Alice Cooper
Slow Ride - Fog Hat
Cult of Personality - Living Colour
Barracuda - Heart

Seems like a strange way to go, but Red Octane announced that they are working with Devendra Banhart and the Animal Collective dudes on a new folk version of the game. Contributors will include Will Oldham, Akron/Family, Angels of Light and the high priestess Joanna Newsome. Its hard to imagine ripping through tracks off Ys, but I'm pretty excited.
Read the press release and full artist list here.
Rumormille:
First up is a new entry in the Guitar Hero series. According to EGM, Guitar Hero: 1980s Edition is in production and will ship sometime in the Spring (presumably alongside Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360). With the game only three to four months away (and still unannounced), EGM could only say "trust us; it's coming."
Woah strikeout I love Stephen.
So what 80s songs do you want?
((Alan Parson's Project))
Become a real guitar hero. We have a wide selection of accoustic guitars, and electric guitars here. We also have drum sets and bass guitars at SameDayMusic.com.

Here they are for GH2 for the 360:
Stolen from somewhere.
TeamXbox was also told that three of the remaining five exclusives are Possum Kingdom (Toadies), Salvation (Rancid) and The Trooper (Iron Maiden), all of which will be part of the main gameplay. The remaining two are currently unannounced, though they will only be unlockable through gameplay. Additionally, Dead! and Possum Kingdom will be “master tracks,†meaning that they’ll be the respective bands’ original recordings, rather than the studio remakes that make up the rest of the tunes in the game.
The other key section of the announcement will revolve around plans for downloadable content through Xbox Live. While RedOctane’s announcement won’t provide details on what will be offered—beyond stating it’ll include “achievement points, download themes, picture packs, and, most importantly, new songs through Xbox Live Marketplaceâ€â€”TeamXbox was told that the publisher expects to make a batch of songs available on the day that the game hits stores, so players can immediately expand the playable song list. A RedOctane spokesperson stated that he expects the company to announce aspects about the first batch of downloadable tunes some time in February.
(As we indicated in our November Guitar Hero II preview, the rumor is that the first downloadable songs will give Xbox 360 players a chance to catch up on the franchise by offering the song list from the first Guitar Hero game. However, a RedOctane spokesperson said that the contents of the first downloadable offerings haven’t been nailed down yet, so for now it all remains something to speculate on.)
We were assured that, as you’d expect, Guitar Hero II will have a standard offering of achievements through gameplay, which we assume will comprise 1,000 Gamerscore points. Also, the game will include online leaderboards, so players can “track their high scores and share bragging rights with their friends and other top rock gods.†A RedOctane spokesperson said that leaderboards will likely be set up for weekly and monthly stat tracking, though more details will follow in that regard before the game ships.

"Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Joel Zumaya missed three games of the American League Championship Series thanks inflammation of the forearm and right wrist, something everyone assumed was brought on by his pitches.
But it turns out that like yours truly, Zumaya is a Guitar Hero addict and the prolonged gaming was what actually brought on the injury..." kotaku
In what was the smelliest and best-attended Williamsburg nerd-down in recent memory, the Funde Razor 2006 rocked the shit out of Barcade Wednesday night. They raised $2350 to help little kids in hospitals all over the world play video games.
We showed up at about 7:45, with the event scheduled to start at 8, and the place was already packed like it was 11pm on a Saturday. By 8:30, the entire bar smelled like some unwashed nerd's couch cushion after a 36-hour gaming marathon.
The local fire department has a sign posted that it is unlawful and dangerous for the bar to contain more than 75 drunk nerds at a time, but according to the Funde Razor blog, representatives from the bar estimated between 250-300 of the roly-poly rockers.
With all the bodies and no discernible line for players to wait in, people rudely grabbed guitars at the end of songs or didn't get to play. Except for those with special equipment. My wife Karen totally 'girled' her way in for a round and played Search and Destroy with Legendary Guardian Auron, who made a surprise visit to Earth. And a greedy rocker he was, too. In a bar so packed with GH enthusiasts that it took twenty minutes just to get a goddamn beer, Auron played at least twice.
For shame, Auron.
I never got my hands on one but didn't mind. By the time I was close enough to grab the neck of a guitar, they were so warm and wet from palm sweat they made the subway pole on rush hour look sanitary.
Barcade tomorrow at 8. I'm totally going. Flyer after the jump.
Well, you know, um, I mean. She did. Tonight. On our guitar hero guitars. She did the uh. Tutorial? And then the uh. Whatsit? The uh.
I don't remember the first song she played.
But AFTER that she played War Pigs. And she totally rocked out and it was fun and funny. And I don't have pictures or video because I thought it would be weird and kinda creepy to even introduce myself, so when I set her up with the guitar and Karen taught her how to play, I mostly just pretended like I didn't know who she was. And I think it worked, because she didn't recognize me as the editor who was editing stuff she hasn't even seen yet.
I worry, I think, a little bit too much about on-or-near-the-job celebrity interaction. But I have a hard and fast rule that I have yet to have a good reason to break: totally pretend like you have no idea who they are. Which does not mean walk up to them, introduce yourself, and ask for their name. Treat them like you treat any other stranger in the room. Only talk to them if you have a really, really good reason.

I didn't write this one, but I endorse it.
...(BEGIN DORK-OUT)...
...Guitar Hero 2 is WICKED! (I shall be using some more ou of use synomyms for awesome, because our current words are too overused to express the RADICALNESS of Guitar Hero 2).
Their song selection is soooo Smart and PRIME this time around, even the repetitive songs are fun because they're BITCHIN, like Heart Shaped Box. I never thought I'd see the day when I was playing and singing along to Heart Shaped Box. I need to get some flannels and thermals post haste. I have to say, putting aside the SICK set list for a moment, I think the GNARLIEST part about GH2 is the cooperative. It is so MAGIC to play a song with someone else, and not just be trading back and forth the same part. With one person playing lead, and the other playing bass or rythym guitar, it's a step closer to feeling like you're actually making music and not just mashing plastic buttons when the tv tells you to. SO LEET.
...(END DORK-OUT)...

Haiku review to come.
Thank you Dan @ Harmonix! And plus Everyone Else @ Harmonix!

Radness! I'd like to hear everyone's initial impressions of That's Plenty's most eagerly awaited game! Please leave comments on what you think!

So now you can rock under the watchfull eye of microsoft...although this probably means that you'll be able to rock over the interweb with strangers. What it definitely means is there will be downloadable content for the 360 version.
Well, I guess MTV is jumping on the video game bandwagon and has bought Harmonix. Expect to see MTVs logo slapped all over Guitar Heroes near you. They plan to put new songs for GH on their websites and virtual worlds (MTV has virtual worlds? Who knew?) so fans can play along with or even remix their favorite songs.
It's not such a shabby move for MTV. It also probably means that everyone and their mom will have Guitar Hero now. (Which means we won't be special anymore!) Harmonix also makes some karaoke game that MTV will be utilizing as well. It's kind of crappy that MTV can just be like, oh someone made something cool, let's buy it and litter it with our oh-so-stale name. But such is life, I guess. At least it means new songs. Even if they are by Evanescence and Beyonce.
Tons of new tracks revealed, after the jump...

Alright, as of 5 minutes ago I've finished mixing my band's awesome entry (Go listen now!)to the Be a Guitar Hero contest. Wish me luck! If you want to submit a song, you have till midnight tonight.
If you can get around the really annoying girl screaming, plus the "Gimme horns! Gimme horns!" clip looped no fewer than three times during the segment, you can watch a video about Guitar Hero II from the floor of E3. The most exciting news was that Primus not only agreed to include a song in Guitar Hero, but they gave Red Octane a MASTER TRACK, so the song we hear will not be a well-done cover, but the actual album version of the song.
SWEET.
Reverend Horton Heat - "psychobilly freakout"*
KISS - "Strutter"
The Kinks(van halen version) - "you really got me"*

Screen shot? Sure:
