Yes We Can Grant The Telcos Immunity From Prosecution For Their Compliance With Illegal Wiretapping

Yup, the wiretap bill just passed - the one granting the feds continued access to warrantless wiretapping and giving immunity to companies who violated the rights of their customers during the first illegal round of warrantless wiretapping.

And Barack Obama voted for it!

Hillary voted against it.

Making me wish I'd changed my mind...

one issue for government representation is silly.

Hillary could make that vote because she's got nothing else riding on it. If Hillary was the nominee I imagine their votes would have been reversed. Politically expedient? Yes.

That is brutal that the wiretap law passed so quickly and with so little fan fare. I'm not a card carrying member of the ACLU, but there's has been a huge erosion of civil liberties over the last 8 years.
