Ramones' Tshirts and Hot Topic

| | Comments (5)

This article in the NYT magazine is very cute and should be read before it's locked away under the annoying passwords and subs needed.

And here's a question for That's Plenty, Can you name everything you've ever boughten at a Hot Topic? I bought a Rudimentary Peni 7" and this weird contraption, like reverse pliers, to get my old earrings out for when I visited my great uncle.

Looked like this, but silver, and basically had to put the metal edges in the hoop and squeeze and it would extend making the little ball drop out.

control

Saw control last night. Thought it was pretty good, especially when set as a counter balance against the bright dv of 24hpp. It's kinda like a huge pimple, elegent and volatile, and you know its going to end messy. the music is pretty good, its like a really sincere cover band doing studio tracks that are just a little off. out takes. there's a bit of lyrics and poetry read aloud. I think it helped define a key dif between the two for me: lyrics (often) need the music to not sound silly. i just got back from england from a work trip. i hate england quite a bit. where is ian curtis' daughter today?

the shock doctrine

So there's a book out there called The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism written by a saucy 37 year old Canadian. She teamed up with Alfonso Cuarón who did Children of Men to make this little filmy, directed and edited by Cuaron's son, Jonas.

mo-cap dog!

From Quantic Dream who made Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit (in Europe where it's not bad to be associated with a Michael Moore flick) and Omnikron the Nomad Soul which featured David Bowie and his hot one-name-only wife as virtual actors. Can mo-cap dog replace cats of any sort? Prolly not.

Have you seen the little piggies?

| | Comments (1)

My first week of the surgery clerkship was orientation. They gave us an intro to the trauma room and the OR, told us how to scrub, the basics of note-writing, etc. The second to last day, we had a suture lab; they taught us how to put in stitches and tie knots. They used pigs feet. Now, I've done this before. Usually, it's the kind of pigs feet that come from a butcher in Chinatown - they're thick-skinned and still hoofed, but they've been cleaned up; they're ready to put in a soup. This time, though, the pigs feet smelled startlingly like barn. They were still hairy, and still had some grit between their little piggy toes. I wondered where they got them. Some sort of medical supply company, where they get the rats? But would they sell us just the feet? I think I got my answer today.
