Project Canary
To be ignored by most. Uh, Sam, this sound familiar?
Game construct #1: Initial ideas to be refined/built on (Will, Ryan, and Eli)
Contact has been lost with a research base that's a good distance away. All attempts of human contact have been unsuccessful. You are the only successful working AI. This is your first assignment- you are to be sent in with a group of (clones, slaves, TV evangelists?) to investigate what is going on. You have the ability to take mind control of any one of them at any time. You will use these people as your tools for manipulating objects in the environment. However, what you don't know is that there is a massive power source using a new and rare element that little is known about. You also have no knowledge of the base's history or nature.
During the beginning stages of the game, a lot of the base will be locked off- either due to the fact that parts don't have power, or security systems. The beginning stage will mostly so the player knows their way around the base, and how it looks before insanity starts to set in. You will get background information from object that you find. (Perhaps the architecture of the building can give clues to it's nature, for example, a room that is set up as a barricade of some sort, implying a 'last stand'.) The horror of this stage is the creepiness of the long abandoned base. There is little danger at this point. Exploration is the most important part right now, since the player will need a good idea to it's layout before the insanity starts. The flag for stage two (although subtle- there will be no 'Now entering stage two' screens or anything) is entering a research lab and turning on the main power for the system. (Someone successfully shut down the power souce, and this is what triggered the (government/company) to send you in?) Once this happens, the insanity really starts to set in, and things start to show up.
In addition to the sanity meter, there is a memory meter. The high this gets, the more you remember about the environment. Now that the power is on, this meter is started. Things are a little different now, and you need to re-explore things. Some things will be different because you remember something about them, some because you are going insane. The power source is starting to feel you out- perhaps sending little tests at you in some way to see how you will react. (Perhaps your choices here initially will decide how it will react later on- if you don't try to attack it's tests, and ignore them, it will throw less stuff at you later (Or more?)) When further revelations are made, you gain access to other parts that you could not get into before… perhaps you somehow know how to open a door. (Although I HATE the idea of a maze, maybe you can navigate an air-duct system to get into something?) You receive a transmission form your superiors telling you to turn off whatever is on, entering stage three.
'Combat' is turned on. The power source has recognized your intentions, and starts to conjure things to attack you. Fighting would be based on the will of one opponent and another. Although I can't actually touch a monster or whatever in front on me, the sheer fact that I want to inflict damage on him hits him, and the same for him hitting me. (Remember, all of these things would be in the mind of the player/slave he is controlling, and not actually be there.)
By now you have figured out that the power source is actually a split of YOUR mind (you would be the logical side, and it would be the emotional side.)
The 4 different endings- anyone could be the ending (it would be cool if no matter what ending a person got, they thought that was it, that that's just how the games ends).
1- You turn yourself off. This kills you, the player and the emotional side of the AI
2- 2 you merge with the emotional side, becoming a full person again.
3- You turn the power on all the way, letting the emotional side have full power
4- You merge and turn on the power, which would make you some kind of super powerful thing. Let's work on that…
That's what we got so far… here's the outline:

I still think it would have been an awesome game had we put the real effort into it. We had a good idea...
