May 2007 Archives
I love the Threepenny Opera. I guess they did a new one, and looky, Wallace Shawn did the translation. This song is now amazing and sad and great and I've watched this 13 times today. Cyndi's hair is very 80s, and I know I'm stating the obvious but wow.
edit yeah its kinda horrible, but thats what i like
I just got the original US recording from 1954 which features a young Bea Arthur. There's a good cover of What Keeps Mankind Alive by William S. Burroughs floating around as well. I'm quite upset there doesn't seem to be a recording of this new version, especially since the new lyrics don't sound heinous and I'd love to hear what they did to Jealousy Duet.
1
lust Seriously. Sounds like an outtake from Nilsson's the point.
2
gluttony The Pointer Sisters on vox. I'm anti jazz, but this ok. No cookie monster for gluttony. too easy.
3
wrath This is fucking rad.
4
greed this is a metaphor for something. i just don't know what.
5
pride i really don't think this is funny. but i don't think it's good.
6
envy ok this is from the muppet show, but I think that fits in with envy.
7
sloth I can't find the video of the hippy long hair who gets a haircut finally, and his friends drown in an ocean of golden curls. anyways, grover know's what's up. fuckers trying to make him work.
..bonus sin below..

Man, I love Creationism: Instead of saying, "If God can sculpt the entire fucking earth out of nothing, then maybe he could create even a complicated process like evolution," thus rendering biblical objections to natural science effectively moot, the apparent bulk of serious Creationists insist that earth is 6000 years old and that man lived in harmony with dinosaurs until L. Ron Hubbard, Marilyn Manson, Sponge Bob, and I came and fucked it all up.
Well, they're right, I guess, because they now have a 27 million dollar museum explaining that they're right. How very P.T.Barnum of them. I salute anyone willing to put $27 mil. into a wrong idea, just to prove how very right it is. Next time I'm in Kentucky, I'm definitely checkin it out.
Read the good news your(damned)self...

I've been a Nine Inch Nails fan for a very long time, but I've never heard his stance on the state of music and the music industry. Well, now I have, and it's comforting to know that he thinks the record company people are greedy, shortisighted bunglers. Or, as he says
That's ... why you don't see any label people here, 'cos I said 'F--- you people. Stay out of my f---ing show. If you wanna come, pay the ticket like anyone else. F--- you guys". They're thieves. I don't blame people for stealing music if this is the kind of s--- that they pull off.

I didn't blog it when the 80s track list came out, because honestly I could give a quarter of a shit about Guitar Hero 80s edition. Sorry.
But the GH3 tracks that were revealed today? Boy howdy, I can't wait to school all you motherfuckers on these tunes:

The Metal - Tenacious D
My Name is Jonas - Weezer
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Rock And Roll All Nite - Kiss

Ahhh, yes, we are again reminded that, sometimes, the best news is bad news (for the monkey).
As Henry "Big Pookie" James once said (I paraphrase): "Cats and monkeys, cats and monkeys... All you need to know of human life you can learn from cats and monkeys."
And poisoned plague squirrels, it turns out.
(Steve, this sounds like a board game we need to invent right now: Zombie Squirrels of Catan.)
Anyway, read the article, it's hilarious. And the monkey's name was Spanky!
Before wikipedia was around, if you googled spiders, this was like the 2nd result.

It makes use of some clever web stuff, and is basically an alt or dare I say "what if?" post 9-11 scenario where Al gore is president, detainee's get amazon wish lists, and slashdot is relevant. also, ecstasy bombs. I enjoyed it back in school, but doesn't look like it was ever finished. still worth a gander. over really good webcomic serial is When I Am King which won all sorts of awards, and the author was just using it as a tool to learn html and illustrator. if camel/man sex acts offend, do not read.

Just... Record, go back to the beginning, record another layer, repeat.

So it has come to my attention that maybe people haven't seen LOLcats. LOLcats, according to wikipedia, are
Whenever I need to be happy, I go to the best source for all things LOLcats (and LOLrus, for the bucket enthusiast in you), which is a website named for a popular LOLcat caption, i can has cheez burger?.
Nothing makes me laugh this hard. Ever.
The Blow

talent show grade stuff
except I paid to see this

So... This showed up on my myspace tonight. What would a feminist ringtone sound like? Would you really want quotes from The Feminine Mystique screaming out of your pocket every time Gr00nd rings you up for a beer?
look at how much fun I'm having!

It never grows on you. Even on the north side.
hallucination acid lobot by com.a / Sample from Apple Y2K Propaganda
There was an old Farside comic where they revealed to the president or emperor or something, that his whole life had been an experiment, and the funding has run out. Take that Truman Show/Matrix! Anyway, com.a was a Tigerbeat6 darling that has seemed to evaporated in the late aughts, who did a few nifty little songs with a bunch of beat robbing and sample snatching, including an obscure Misfits' sample that will be revisited someday. Hallucination acid lobot was always just another song with a classic sci-fi sample right out of the history sbemails. However, last summer when youtube was blowing up and I was showing it to one of my editors, he freaked out and tried to find this old commercial he loved and low and behold - the birth of the sample was revealed. It's about 1:53 into the song, till the end, remixing Mac HAL as an apologetic destroyer of mank-ind.

[Interpol - The Heinrich Maneuver]
New Interpol track. Not the shitty radio version floating around. Did a source recording from the stream, so it's still not the best quality, but decent. Ok song but a lot of gabba gabba hey hey about the west coast. Gets my goat something fierce. Sounds like the new album will sound a lot like the last two. Whatever happened to songs like the Specialist? Fringe erotic after the jump inspired by Ballard's Crash. Hmm...warm leatherette
This is Ryan's:

In what can only be considered a staggering defeat for the wretched media virus known as DRM, the code necessary to decrypt every HD-DVD currently on the market has blown up all over the internet.
Posts containing the code were censored by digg.com and removed from their pages in compliance with DMCA requests, but righteous nerd outrage broke out and overwhelmed digg.com with posts about the code faster than the employees and moderators could take them down. In the end, the people won out and the founder of digg has gone on record as saying that they "... won’t delete stories or comments... and will deal with whatever the consequences might be."
Which is pretty ballsy considering they could get sued into nonexistence.
Whatever the fate of digg.com, the game is over for the code and (for now) HD-DVD encryption. The purveyors of software designed to lock legitimate users out of their own purchased content have heard the market speak: DRM sucks ass and nobody wants it.
As of 1:01am May 3rd, 2007, there were about 359,000 pages with the character string on the internet, according to google.
And now, 359,001! Ding!
I don't get to a lot of retro stuff at work, so this was fun. I 'produced' this, wrote some of it, editted a bunch of it, and whipped 3 final cut editors into making it look purdy. It may not be my canonical list (where's goonies 2?) but its ok and i got to wax poetic about Kuribo's shoe.
p.s. Sam - Castlevania 2 isn't that good.
To be ignored by most. Uh, Sam, this sound familiar?
