Midnight Madness!

| | Comments (7)

This weekend, thanks to fellow blogger and all around swell guy Eric, not to mention team leader Stan and the whole rest of the team, I participated in a massive all-night-and-most-of-the-following-day scavenger hunt and puzzling extravaganza called Midnight Madness, inspired by on 1980 movie of the same name.

The following are videos and pictures from said event.

Excluded are pictures and videos that could be used against me in a court of law.

But first - the team picture. Team members can e-mail me for a hi-res copy.

Exhibit #1: A response to the scavenger hunt cue "Slapstick", for which we recieved three cred.

This puzzle was the bane of my existence:

A grown man bravely and victoriously drank an entire bottle of Tabasco Sauce for the scavenger hunt cue "eat a spicy condiment." But was it worth it?

My response to the "picture of a dead pigeon" cue. Described by Game Control as "a very popular dead pigeon."

In a manic attempt to catch up to other teams who were briskly moving through the scavenger hunt list while our list was being copied at Kinko's, Eric and I attempted to one-up another team's picture of a headstand. Sadly, a headstand was not on the scavenger hunt list.

Eric getting his fortune told, which was on the scavenger hunt list. I was mistaken for his gay lover.

An ingenious puzzle through which a telephone number was derived by determining the lighting sequence of each "lighting bolt," and deriving the proper order by the time difference between when each bolt lit and the sound of thunder played on a nearby speaker.

And finally, if you insist:
Me: Excuse me, have your dogs defecated yet this morning?
Stranger: Uh, no.
Me: Well, I'm on a scavenger hunt, and I need a picture of a dog pooping. I'm just going to follow you until one of them goes for a squat.
Stranger: Um.
Me: Oh! Look! There he goes!

So amazing, and yet so painful to remember. BTW, we finished 14th out of 21 teams at 4:00 PM Sunday. We were only about two hours behind the winners.

Hey everyone! I had an awesome time and thanks so much for letting us come along. Sorry we bailed around 8AM - if we knew how long it was we wouldn't have walked the city the entire day before MM. It was lovely meeting you all and I hope to come up for next years!!

Midnight Madness is a fine movie. Where you the nerds on scooters group? Or the post feminist fat girls with the closetted red head lesbian?

fun fact: The Pabst brewery in that movie is now an artist work/live space where Virgil's dad used to live. sadly there is no more pabst though there is a bar...

Thanks for the pics eric. And your badass scavenging.

I never thought i'd have such a visceral reaction to 5 cents in change. fuck lincoln and his fucking smirking face.

MM9 was awesome. can't wait til MMX (2010? -- oh, know, my brain is stuck on "puzzle".)

Hey - great pics! Thanks! And thank you for your invaluable documentation of the Tabasco incident - that was Beau, also a teammate, who was on "cred detail" pushing his body beyond reasonable limit. In fact, moments before, the dude had eaten a roach. A roach. (George was also a teammate of mine, on Clear - he has magic orgami hands. Believe me.) Best of luck next year, Stephen from Marmalade - we'll keep an eye out for you next year ...
