History of Awesome, Vol. 1

I know I've slacked off on the music section here on thats plenty, I've gotten quite busy with non-blog music projects. But fear not music fans! I am currently at work on a three volume Mix CD for a friend of mine, and I shall share it here for the common erudition. The theme of this anthology is simple: a chronilogically ordered history of music that I think is sweet from 1967 to present day.
For the purposes of this compilation I am using term "sweet" to define things that I like, being the semi-goth that I am. I've tried to accomplish a few things within these guidlines: 1, present no more than three songs for any given year; 2, avoid well know hits as much as possible; 3, illuminate the progression and dialog of the pop music presented...example: there are two songs from Bowie's "berlin era", which is significantly innovative, and none from the glam era, which is awesome but musically not as inventive; and 4, make three cohesive mix cd's that stand up on their own. Within this rule set I've disreguarded the common Law of Mix CD's which makes doubling up on artists deeply frowned upon. This should keep yall's mp3 players busy for a while. Presented today:
