NYC stands together and says NO! to bicycles
Hasn't the NYPD wasted enough time fighting "crime", "violence", and "speeding cars"? Isn't it about time we start focusing our energies on the real crime, overzealous bicylists? I think it's past time, my friends. Past time.
And I am happy to announce that that the time is now. At long last, Bicylists will be receiving a well-deserved $60 ticket if caught in the illegal act of riding on the Brooklyn Bridge. Freaking finally, right? I mean, I know there is a lane designated for bicycles, and on the Wikipedia page about the Brooklyn Bridge it states "Carries: Motor vehicles, elevated trains (until 1944), streetcars (until 1950), pedestrians, and bicycles". But we all know those lanes should have been eliminated years ago, and Wikipedia is outdated. Bicycles are a thing of the past, and frankly, make our city look bad.
Techincally what we will say to the bikers is they are being ticketed for not dismounting their bikes at the part of the bridge where the path goes off into two different directions near the base. There are signs stating to stop, and although these signs cannot be clearly viewed from a biker's vantage point, we all know those ill-mannered bikers are Purposely Ignoring them!
And for those offenders on the Williamsburg Bridge, the NYPD is still allowing bike passage (for now...let's keep our finger crossed that it won't be for long) but tickets are being doled out for speeding, not wearing a helmet, not having proper bike lights, and not having a horn or bell. I am so happy to be able to announce that New York's pesky bike problem is finally being addressed! Let's show those primitive bike-friendly cities like Portland and Minneapolis what a real city can do! Please enjoy the heavy presence of cops on bikes and in unmarked cars at the end of our bridges. I've seen them myself at the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge, patiently waiting. Enough talk of the muggings on the bridges. Now we push that child's play crime aside and get down to the real culprit: Bikers.
