I am nearly impossible to scare.

Last weekend was a great weekend for horror movies for me. (It was also great because it was my birthday and there was pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey and goodie bags and pop rocks and I got to go to the zoo!) On Friday night I watched The Changling, which I had never even heard of before, and it was totally kind of scary, and totally awesome. Then on Sunday I watched Polergeist, which, surprisingly, I had never seen before (all thee years I'd thought I'd seen it), and Pet Semetary, which was a favorite as a child. (Oh god, my ancle tendon feels so tender!) But I want more. I want to know what you think the scariest movies are. Here are the ones I like the best.

Here are the movies that actually scared me: Suspiria, The Birds, Rosemary's Baby, Carrie, The Ring (yeah, whatever, it's scary the first time you see it. You know you were afraid to be alone when it was over.) Blair Witch Project (Well! So! I thought it was real!), Event Horizon, Silence of the Lambs, and I think Village of the Damned scared me (I was only a baby when I saw it). And of course, the alltime scariest movie, The Shining. I've seen it probably more times than any other movie, and i still get a twee bit frightened.

And then there are other greats that I love but didn't find scary: Sleepaway Camp (especially with the director's commentary. Delightful), Children of the Corn, Dead Alive, Re-Animator, Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Alien, Seven, Misery, and Repulsion.

I have a bunch of scary movies I haven't seen on my netflix, which include Scanners, The Innocents (based on the short story The Turn of the Screw), The Eye, Wickerman, Blood Feast, Videodrome, Jacob's Ladder, Night of the Living Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Serpent and the Rainbow, and the original The Hills Have Eyes.

But I suspect that there are tons of awesome scary movies I might have never heard of..And if you know them, or just want to tell me what movie scared you more than any other, I'd love to hear it. I'm on a serious quest here. I want to be scared.

If you have an hour of spare time, I'd like to recommend RetroCrush's great list of the 100 scariest movie scenes. It's great.

Wickerman is only scary if you find boobies scary, which I do.

Hi Sam,

I too am on a quest to find the world's scariest movie.
My ex found 'Dead End' very scary but i didn't.
I have seen a lot of films but still can't find that one that'll scare me.
My current girlfriend doesn't scare easily too, she laughs at some films.

my ex flatmate(a guy) found Friday the 13th part 2 really scary but again i couldn't.

I think the original Halloween is one of the best but i am still on the hunt so if you can suggest any to me that'll be great.
