Lowbrow Love...Part One: Saucy Fun

| | Comments (3)

Karen's tatto post got me thinking about the fine art of tattoing and its connection to the "lowbrow" art world. So in that spirt I have assembled some of my favorite low brow artists, some of whom are tattoo artists themselves. I would be proud to wear any of these guys art on my skin...

NOTE: There are some depictions of nudity and sexuality after the link so....you should probably look at them.

RATFINK! This guy is the Granddaddy of an entire asthetic. I am sure you will recognize his big eyed monsters driving crazy muscle cars. They are total icons in the american visual landscape. His site is a little crappy to navigate around, but it is definitly worth checking out.

He is the current king of lowbrow art, as far as I am concerned. His drawings are very much in the Ed "Ratfink" Roth vein. However he concerns himself much more with the "Fat Bottomed Girls" then he does the cars. Curvy Devil Babes, Naked Nuns, and Raging Robots, he is a winner through and through. If you are interested in the process he employs, he also has a sweet blog at http://positiveapeindex.blogspot.com/

Continuing in the saucy ladies theme (which is half the fun of lowbrow art) is www.erostypopla.com I just stumbled onto his small but enjoyable website. A Japan to LA transplant, his work feels sort of JPop/Seventies/Horror Movie and there are a couple of pieces that just blow me away.

Seeing as I didn't want to overload you all, I will be posting this homage to lowbrow in parts. Look for "Part 2: Brain Goo: and "Part 3: Run and Flee" in the near future.
