uh. ddo is a lot of fun but they shouldn't be charging a monthly fee. diablo didn't. guild wars doesn't. etc.

what server are you on?

I'm helping out on the xplay review for this. I'll promote endlessly when its up

See, I dunno. You think DDO is a lot of fun? I really didn't think it was very fun at all. Here's my thing: I love soloing. When I get bored with following a bunch of fighters around a dungeon (I'm always a healer, thief, or ranger), I like to be able to run around, explore, go hunting, etc. In Asheron's Call, Worlds of Warcraft, even the free Anarchy online, it's not really difficult. You can do that. But in DDO, group play is pretty much your only option. For anyone but a strong fighter, the quests are way too hard to take on alone, and there's no place to go. The cities aren't really rich textured landscapes full of personality and secrets, the way the entire worlds of other MMORPGs are - they are pared down backdrops that serve, almost exclusively, as portals to dungeons.

Frankly, I think it sucks.

Yep, DDO isn't for soloing, but its dungeon and dragons, not another mmorpg. its supposed to be played with others. Its a lot of fun to go into a dungeon (being narrated by ur-nerd Gary Gygax) and have the rogue start freaking out cause there is a trap nearby that no one else can see. But the monthly fee makes you think mmorpg, and it really isnt.

The game is less math and more random than WoW, but with its vague arcady action, that's ok. I love WoW (level 60 druid) and its vastness and humor, there are points when its just like the world best excel sheet.

just had a sitdown with the chronicles of spell born guys. if they can tweek combat, that game could be great. intelligent time travel.
